Walking the East Devon Way

Devon Dog Walks

About the Route

The East Devon Way is a long-distance footpath that runs for 38 miles / 60 km from Exmouth in East Devon along to Lyme Regis in Dorset and forms a parallel alternative to the South West Coast Path. The route follows footpaths, bridleways, and country lanes and passes through the East Devon Area of Outstanding Beauty (AONB), linking to the South West Coast Path, the amazing Jurassic Coast, and the stunning Exe Estuary. It’s also a great way to explore some of those villages that you usually only travel through in the car. You can link routes from beautiful coastal and countryside locations to the East Devon Way- just look out for the Link waymarkers.

You can walk the trail as a linear route, there are six stages from west to east or east to west and they are waymarked throughout so it s an easy-to-follow walk, just follow the sign of the foxglove. We are walking the circular routes that have been put together so you start and finish at the same place. There are fourteen of these routes and we shall be ticking them off this year so follow us to find out how we get on.

Planning your walk

Planning your walking itinerary could not be easier. The East Devon Way Website has all the information you need to plan your walk and find places to stay, tea rooms, and pubs en route. Find all the information on the walking routes, including the circular routes, all with clear and concise instructions. You can also obtain a copy of the East Devon Way Guide here.

You can even apply for a certificate and badge if you complete the whole walk (not necessarily in one go) through the East Devon Way Website!

Dogs

All of the East Devon Way is dog friendly, but as ever please just be mindful of where you are walking. If you are going through fields with animals in please keep your dog on a lead particularly in spring and autumn when livestock are pregnant with young.
