10 Dog Friendly Water Activities in Devon.

The coastline of Devon is absolutely stunning from dramatic cliffs and rocky coastlines to secluded coves and golden sand beaches. Here are our suggestions for some water activities in Devon for dogs and their owners that love the water.

1.Sea Safari - Teignmouth

A wonderful way to enjoy the amazing coastline out of Teignmouth. We did the 1.5 hour Labrador Bay Wildlife Tour and our skipper had a keen eye pointing out all the wildlife, dolphins and a whole host of coastal birds. Well behaved dogs are allowed- just let them know before you arrive.

2. Surfside Kayak Hire- Coombe Martin

Book a guided kayak tour and enjoy the amazing North Devon coastline at Coombe Martin. All the tours are tailored to your ability and suitable for all ages and dog friendly too.

3. Paddleboard with your dog.- Doggy Paddle with Paddle Shack

What better way to enjoy the River Dart than on a Paddle Board with your best dog buddy. Paddle Shack at Dartmouth run ‘Doggy Paddle’, which is an opportunity to see how your dog takes to the sport, while you are both in safe hands. They run the doggy paddles out of Warfleet cove, in Dartmouth, which offers calm, sheltered water for you and your furry friend to get comfortable paddle boarding together.

4. Cruise along the Jurassic Coast - Stuart Line Cruises
Stuart Line Cruises, based in Exmouth, is an all weather dog friendly , family favourite day out. A family business that has been running since 1968 and is a widely recognised tourist attraction in the area with boats sailing our beautiful coast around Exmouth, Exeter, Torquay and Sidmouth. A very dog friendly attraction and a great way to see this amazing coastline.

5 Leisurely Canoe along a river. - Singing Paddles

Fancy a leisurely paddle along the waterways of South Devon ? Then Singing Paddles could be what you are looking for. They offer a variety-of guided tours and travel at a leisurely pace so you get the chance to look and photo all the wildlife of the area. On the trip that we booked we stopped at a deserted beach and lit a fire, had a brew and generally stopped and enjoyed the peace and quiet of the area. They use stable canoes that can be easily paddled by 2 people, with extra seats for a family and a dog. Dogs come free.

6. Paddle to the pub! - Saddles & Paddles Exeter

Saddles & Paddles are on Exeter's historic quayside - popular for it's fascinating history, interesting architecture and independent shops - an easy 10 min walk from the city centre. Chose from canoes, kayaks or Stand Up Paddleboards to explore the area and head down stream to The Double Locks pub - a popular dog friendly spot for a drink and a bite.

7. Hire a boat & explore Salcombe Estuary- Whitestrand Boat Hire

What better way to explore the stunning Salcombe estuary than by boat. Whether you wish to explore the Salcombe estuary, visit a pub with friends for lunch or hang out on the beach with the family, Whitestrand have the boat for you. No experience or qualifications are required, they will show you where you can go and how to get there. Dogs Welcome.

8. Kayaking on English Riveria Coast - Broadsands Beach & Water Sports.

The long, red-sandy beach of Broadsands is extensive when the tide goes out and the beach shelves gently into the calm water, making it generally safe for kayaking, paddle boarding, paddling, sailing, and swimming. Hire a kayak or Paddle board from Broadsands Beach & Water Sports and spend a couple of hours exploring the glorious area towards Elberry Cove, the “seven sisters”, Churston Cove, Fishcombe Cove and even the lovely fishing port of Brixham. Dog friendly and they will even supply the dog buoyancy aid.

Please note dogs are not permitted on the beach during the May to September season.

9. Spot the Dolphins in North Devon- Ilfracombe Sea Safari


Look out for wildlife and you may see seals, dolphins and lots of birdlife along the way with the Ilfracombe Sea Safari. Explore this area of outstanding natural beauty from the sea going either east or west depending on the tides you can expect to see picturesque views of Smugglers Caves to the East or Bull Point Lighthouse to the west. Dogs are welcome as long as well behaved. Please note: Dog's are not allowed on our Lundy Shuttle or Swim with Seals trip due to dog's not being allowed at Lundy Island.

10. Discover the Teign Estuary with a self drive motor boat - Teign Boat Hire

Hire a boat from Teign Boat Hire and you can head under Shaldon Bridge and explore the estuary or head out to sea for some fishing. Situated on the dog friendly back beach at Teignmouth , Teign Boat Hire is positioned in easy walking distance from the town with a large car park directly behind the beach. Dogs are are welcome on board as long as they are well behaved and stay in the boat while out!
